Steps 3/4 – Q4. How Can I Change My Curriculum in the First Term to Accommodate Soft Skills Development?

After researching three delivery methods—flipped classroom, scaffolded classroom, and hybrid—I opted for a hybrid approach: scaffolded flipped classroom. This combines structured progression with active, student-led learning.

Scaffolding Methodology

  • Three Development Stages:
    • Awakening → Introduce the concept of soft skills
    • Acknowledgement/Identification → Help students recognize their own soft skills
    • Reflection and Discovery → Encourage deeper understanding and application
  • Channels Created:
    • Soft Skills Passport (weekly entries to track skills)
    • Padlet Journaling (students reflect on projects and soft skills usage)
    • 2 in-class presentations: at the start and at the end.
  • Assignments:
    • Tiered tutorials and readings (basic and advanced) to promote stepping outside comfort zones

Flipped Classroom Methodology

  • Pre-Class Preparation:
    • Home assignments with readings and video tutorials
    • Increases time-on-task outside class, enabling students to identify and apply soft skills before in-class activities
